This weekend the film Dark Shadows starring Johnny Depp opens. I could not resist sharing this funny little story with you that haunts me everyday. I slept with Barnabus Collins, well not exactly with him..wink, but in his house!
Here's some history of the famous mansion.
In 1907, whiskey millionaire Edson Bradley built a French-Gothic mansion on the south side of Dupont Circle in Washington, D.C. but 16 years later he took the house apart and decided moved it to Newport, Rhode Island.
It later became an exclusive all-girl boarding school and was renamed Burnham-by-the-Sea. I was crazy enough to send for a brochure and my (still) best friend Linda and I somehow talked our parents into letting us go to school there to become more lady-like and polished.
It is uber cool because Dark Shadows used Burnham-by-the-Sea as the exterior set for the fictional Collingwood Mansion.
Someday maybe like Barnabus, I just might return there one day to live too. If you come to visit be sure you listen for my footsteps running up and down the hallway chasing Barnabus.
So I did sleep with Barnabus-that's my story and I am sticking with it.
